Cinderburst and Overkill
How Cinderburst measures excess killing damage and which killing hits can trigger it.

What overkill means
Overkill is the part of a direct killing hit left after the enemy reaches 0 HP. Cinderburst compares that excess with the enemy's maximum HP, not with the HP it had just before the hit.
Trigger formula
Minimum effective killing damage = remaining HP + the required fraction of maximum HP. Effective damage means the amount left after shields, damage reductions and armor.
Trigger and damage
| Required excess (% enemy max HP) | Nova damage per target (% target max HP) |
|---|---|
| 50% | 16% |
What counts
- The threshold uses enemy maximum HP, never its remaining HP
- Personal shields, damage reductions and armor are resolved before overkill is measured
- Direct melee, ranged, power and effect hits can qualify; damage-over-time kills cannot
- Every qualifying kill triggers Cinderburst - there is no chance roll or cooldown
Current forging requirements produce the full-strength Nova shown above. Amulet strength never lowers the overkill requirement.
